No lockdown in Sharjah, says police chief
DUBAI – Sharjah Police will not be imposing any lockdown in Sharjah amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Sharjah Police chief said on Wednesday (May 6). Major General Saif Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said there is no need to impose tighter restrictions since authorities have not detected mass infections in Sharjah. "There was no massive spread of coronavirus in any location within Sharjah. The police have no intention to impose any lockdown," Al Shamsi said. In April, Sharjah Police set up checkpoints at entry points to the emirate to prevent the transportation of construction workers as part of precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus. Checkpoints were seen on Ittihad Road and on highways between Sharjah and Ajman. The move was part of the Sharjah Economic Department's decision to restrict the movement of workers between emirates.
