Missile firing is the second incident in less than a month

  PYONGYANG - The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said Pyongyang has fired a missile early Friday over northern Japan.It was the second missile firing in less than a month. Seoul's military said the ballistic rocket was fired from Pyongyang's Sunan district where the country's main airport is located. The rocket flew about 3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles) and reached an altitude of 770 kilometers (480) miles before crashing in the Pacific Ocean, South Korea added. While the US Pacific Command said Pyongyang fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile based on their initial analysis, Japan issued conflicting reports on the type of missile that was launched. In response to the latest missile firing, Seoul conducted a "live fire drill" that also involved a missile launch capable of striking the Sunan launch site. NHK said just like the August 29 missile launch over Hokkaido, a Japanese government warning called J-Alert said "a missile" had passed over the northern Japanese island, before landing in the Pacific and advised people to avoid anything could be missile debris. Japanese Coast Guard reported that the missile did not damage any ship in the area where it had fallen. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, meanwhile, told reporters said the launch was "totally unacceptable" and went against "the international community's strong, united will for a peaceful solution."
