IOC awards next two Olympics after Tokyo Games to the two cities

  LIMA, Peru – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed on Wednsday that Paris will host the 2024 Games while it will be Los Angeles' turn to host the greatest sports competition in 2028. It will be the third time that both cities will be hosting the Games. Paris hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924. LA was the host of the 1932 and 1984 Games. For Paris, in particular, it was a long way before the French capital won the right to host the Olympics. It took three failed tries and a loss to London in hosting the 2012 Games before Paris got to be the host. The campaign teams of Paris and London each gave a summary presentation of their bids at the 131st IOC Session in Lima before the committee made the announcement. IOC President Thomas Bach said giving the 2024 and 2028 Games to Paris and Los Angeles "is a win-win situation" for both cities and to the Olympic movement. Unlike previous announcements of the Olympic host, there was no nervousness and tension as both cities had already agreed to split the two Games. It was the first time that the IOC awarded two Olympics simultaneously and Bach said the move was a "golden opportunity." Paris and Los Angeles officials have assured that they won't be spending much for the Games since they already have existing facilities where the various sporting events will be held. The massive cost of hosting an Olympics and the consequent losses incurred by previous hosts had turned off potential bidders.
