Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq has issued a Royal Decree granting Omani citizenship to 45 individuals, as part of efforts to strengthen national unity and recognise those with deep contributions and loyalty to the Sultanate. The move follows the implementation of the new Omani Nationality Law earlier this year, which replaced the 2014 legislation and introduced updated pathways and conditions for acquiring citizenship. The law outlines eligibility for citizenship through birth, marriage, or naturalisation, while also defining strict regulations for dual nationality, which remains prohibited unless granted directly by the Sultan. Under the law, naturalized male citizens who divorce their Omani wife or abandon them within five years will lose their citizenship. The children, however, will retain their Omani nationality. Naturalized female citizens will lose their citizenship if the marriage ends in divorce and they marry a non-Omani. Citizenship will be revoked from the date of the second marriage. The law also specifies that Omanis who acquire foreign nationality without permission automatically lose their Omani citizenship. Similarly, those convicted of crimes against state security or who work with foreign governments against Oman’s interests may also be stripped of nationality. The decree allows reinstatement if the reasons for revocation no longer apply.
