UAE Authorities Warn of Online Car Sale Scam

Scammers are targeting UAE residents with bogus car deals online, with authorities noting an increase in the number of online car sale fraud this year. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department raised an alarm, issuing a fresh warning to the public over scammers setting up fake websites and bogus social media deals to target prospective victims. According to the authority, there have been multiple incidents of residents not receiving the vehicle they have paid for, or receiving tampered or faulty vehicles. Abu Dhabi’s Chief Prosecutor Al Amer Al Ameri urged the public to conduct extensive checks and “verify the reliability of social media accounts and websites before any purchase process.” “People should ensure the identity of the seller and not hand over the money only after they transfer the ownership of the vehicle and register it with the licensing authority,” Al Ameri added.
