'Open House' forum for Indian expats draws more crowd in Dubai

  DUBAI – Another venue to air grievances has been opened to Indian expatriates in Dubai, with the Open House forum drawing a bigger crowd this month. The Indian Consulate in Dubai launched the forum in January to allow expats to seek immediate help from the government. More than 50 people attended the forum on Friday, the third such forum after the pilot forum on January 26. The forum is held on the third Friday of every month, at 3pm. Indian Consul General Vipul said problems that were raised ranged from labour disputes to non-payment of end-of-service benefits. Expats also sought the consulate's help for domestic violence, custody battles, passport expiry, fraud and repatriation of the bodies of Indians who have no financial means. The consulate said it will also launch a volunteer committee outreach on Monday. The committees will deal with financial disputes and labour disputes, including the repatriation of stranded Indian workers.
