Ten landlords in Dubai have been banned from leasing their properties due to overcrowding, the Dubai Land Department (DLD) announced on Monday (August 19). According to the regulator, the ban was imposed after inspectors found that the properties owned by the landlords were overcrowded, posing safety risks. According to the DLD, the 10 property owners are banned from leasing or subleasing their properties “until they resolve their issues and fully meet overcrowding, health and safety standards.” The regulator added that the property owners committed “repeated violations”, resulting in the ban. According to DLD, the violators have been notified and told to resolve the issue. The DLD also urged tenants to comply with laws and regulations to avoid any violations. This year alone, authorities have fined 286 real estate companies and brokers for failing to comply with rules on overcrowding of leased apartments. Under UAE laws, overcrowding in residential units will result in a fine of between Dh50,000 and Dh100,000.
