Pakistan is set to establish a special court aimed at resolving property disputes involving Pakistanis in UAE and overseas, the country’s mission in the UAE confirmed on Saturday (October 19). The move comes in response to the growing legal concerns faced by Pakistani expatriates, particularly those investing in real estate back home. Over nine million Pakistanis reside abroad, many in the Gulf region, including the UAE, which is home to one of the largest Pakistani diaspora communities. These overseas Pakistanis collectively remitted $27 billion in 2023, making a significant contribution to Pakistan’s economy. A substantial portion of these funds is invested in real estate in Pakistan, which often leads to property disputes. In a bid to safeguard the interests of these expatriates, Pakistan's National Assembly and Senate passed the "Establishment of Special Court Act 2024," which enables property dispute cases to be resolved within 90 days. This new court aims to deliver speedy justice by reducing the time it takes to settle such disputes. “We are prioritizing overseas Pakistanis, who are a lifeline to our economy. This special court will expedite their cases and ensure justice is not delayed,” said a representative from Pakistan’s mission in the UAE. Expats will be able to file petitions digitally, allowing for efficient and remote legal processes. Video evidence and other legally recognized modes of proof will also be allowed, with officials from Pakistan’s high commissions and consulates overseeing the proceedings. The move is seen as a much-needed reform for overseas Pakistanis, who have long faced delays in settling their property disputes in Pakistan.
