Pakistani duo win appeal in Filipina rape case - Life sentence slashed to 10 years in jail

  DUBAI – Two Pakistani men have won reduced sentences after they appealed a life imprisonment verdict over the attempted rape of a Filipina jobseeker in Dubai. The Dubai Court of Appeals has commuted the duo's life sentence to ten years in jail. However, they will be deported after serving their sentence. In March, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the two of kidnapping the 37-year-old woman and attempting to rape her, stealing her cash and mobile phone and threatening to kill her. Court records showed the duo posed as employers and lured the Filipina in their car in Al Ghubaiba. Inside the vehicle, they then tied up the woman, but were not able to rape her when they found out she had her menstruation. “They stopped in an uninhabited area and switched seats and then... molested me. The two assaulted me and tied me up with the wires of battery chargers. They abused me,” the woman testified in court.
