Pakistani fake recruiter jailed in Dubai, fined Dh32,000

A Pakistani man has been jailed in Dubai for conning 25 jobseekers, mostly Africans, with fake jobs in the emirate. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced the Pakistani to three years in jail and a fine of Dh32,000. The court heard that he set up a fake recruitment agency in Dubai and lured victims with social media advertisements for security guard jobs. He even hired two female employees who were unaware of his con job. He was able to get a total of Dh32,000 from 25 victims, who later found out they paid his hiring fee for jobs that never materialized. One of the victims told the court that he paid Dh1,500 as processing fee for a job as a security guard. He was given a receipt and told that the job will be in Ajman. However, when he arrived at the company, he was told there was no vacancy. More victims came forward and contacted Dubai Police, which launched an investigation and subsequently arrested the Pakistani man. Police investigations revealed that the Pakistan man registered a commercial company after arriving in the UAE in 202 so he could issue payment receipts while defrauding jobseekers. ICA/Expat Media
