Pakistani jailed for Filipina's attempted rape in Al Quoz

  DUBAI – A 24-year-old Pakistani man will be spending six months in jail for attempting to rape a Filipina waiting for a bus in Al Quoz. The worker had grabbed the woman as she was waiting at a bus stop in the area, and pulled her behind a parked truck where he tried to undress her and rape her. The woman, however, fought back and was able to grab a piece of wood that she used to hit him. In court on Thursday, the woman testified that the Pakistani man had behaved strangely near her during the July incident. “I moved away from him several times… and I even asked him to stand far from me and warned him that I would call the police. Suddenly, he carried me in his hands and took me behind a truck that was parked near the stop. He hugged me forcibly and groped me and it was obvious that he wanted to rape me," she told prosecutors. An Indian and Pakistani passersby who heard her cries of help were able to restrain her would-be rapist. A Pakistani man who rushed to rescue the woman testified to prosecutors: “I spotted him hugging and groping her while she cried and tried to break loose… it was quite obvious that he had intended to rape her. My friend and I ran quickly across the street and helped the Indian man in foiling the rape bid." Police said the victim's clothes were left partly torn and her knees were injured from the struggle. At the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Pakistani was convicted of attempted rape and alcohol consumption. He was also fined Dh2,000 for drinking alcohol. The judge also ordered the worker's deportation after serving his jail term.
