Pakistani man in coma for 3 months in Sharjah to be repatriated
DUBAI – A 33-year-old Pakistani man confined at a hospital in Sharjah in the last three months will be repatriated home as he continued to be in a coma.
Fahim Afsar Khan had worked at a restaurant in the emirate and was reportedly not paid his salary for five months, causing him severe stress that led to a brain haemorrhage.
He then fell into a coma at the Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, the Khaleej Times reported.
His cousin, Dubai-based businessman Tariq Mahmood, had sought the help of the Pakistan Consulate-General in Dubai for Khan’s repatriation.
Mahmood said they are waiting for a no-objection certificate from Khan’s family and a confirmation from a hospital in Islamabad to accept the patient.
According to medical reports, Khan is not likely to come out of coma soon. His cousin quoted doctors as saying that it would be best for Khan to be with his family as he might need medical help “for a long period”.
A spokesperson from the consulate in Dubai said the mission has arranged for Khan’s repatriation with airline tickets, a nurse to accompany him on the flight, an oxygen tank and a stretcher.
