Teens forced into prostitution: Mum acquitted  in UAE trial

  DUBAI - A Pakistani mother accused of forcing her two teenage daughters into prostitution in the UAE has been acquitted. The Dubai Court of First Instance also acquitted four other defendants due to lack of evidence. Prosecutors accused the mother and her four accomplices of taking advantage of the girls, both under 16 years old, by forcing them to work at a massage centre in Karama where they were coerced into working as prostitutes. A labour inspector on a routine inspection discovered the illegal activity after finding a 15-year-old Pakistani girl working in the Karama massage centre. During police interrogation, the girl said that she and her sister were lured to Dubai from Pakistan after their mother promised them that they would continue their studies here. However, what awaited them in Dubai was completely different from what their mother promised, she said. “We were beaten, scolded and forced to do an indecent job… Then one of the suspects raped my sister and impregnated her, so my mother took us back to Pakistan," one of the girls testified in court, adding that her mother brought her back to Dubai later and forced her to do the same job. Their mother allegedly forced them to work in the massage parlor where they were coerced into giving sexual services to clients. Police investigation revealed that a 41-year-old Pakistani spa manager, a hairdresser, an office boy and a clerk helped the Pakistani woman arrange for clients. However, the five have been acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence. The ruling remains subject to appeal.
