A Hong Kong-bound passenger carrying undeclared cash worth $273,905 (P16 million) was apprehended at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, authorities confirmed. The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) flagged the passenger’s luggage after detecting an unusual image during X-ray screening. Airport personnel manually inspected the baggage and found bundles of cash concealed within. "Through collaboration with the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group and the Bureau of Customs, we were able to ensure proper handling of the case," said OTS Administrator Crizaldo Nieves. Under Philippine law, individuals are required to declare cash exceeding $10,000 or P50,000 when entering or leaving the country. Failure to comply can result in confiscation, fines, or criminal prosecution. The Bureau of Customs continues to enforce strict regulations at all Philippine ports of entry and exit to deter illegal activities.
