  DUBAI – Couples in their early 20s make up the majority of 1,000 cases requesting for divorce in Dubai courts every year, according to records. Lawyer Mukhtar Ghareeb is one of those pushing for a change in the UAE law to make it more difficult for women to file for divorce. In a TV interview, Ghareeb said it is currently easy for women to file for divorce in the country. “Any woman who wants to go to court and get a divorce can do so,” he said, “This calls for an urgent need to amend the law.” In the UAE, courts grant women the right to divorce without proof of physical, verbal or emotional damage caused by their husband. The divorcee will be able to claim an allowance from the man, which includes a house, a housemaid and a driver.
