‘Wow cool post, thanks for sharing’ comment trends on Facebook
DUBAI – You must have seen this popping up like mushroom on Facebook, with different users posting the same comment: “Wow cool post, thanks for sharing”.
Who started this and why are people posting the same comment?
Bots? Not exactly. The new trend in comment threads is reportedly part of a new strategy to earn “badges” on the social networking site.
Since Facebook has been doling out “Top Fan” badges to users who actively interact with certain pages or groups, many want to score with the quick "copy-paste" comment “Wow cool post, thanks for sharing”.
Users who earn a Top Fan badge get perks like comment highlight, raffle prizes and fan ranking, encouraging many to spam the comment section with that “Wow cool post, thanks for sharing” comment.
But where exactly did this comment start? According to reports, it started after a group of trolls flooded the comment section of the IGN page on May 9 to protest the posting of non-gaming related content.
The viral comment has become a talking point on Facebook, with many describing it as “annoying” or “hilarious”, and at least one user calling it the “work of the devil”.
