Philippine amusement ride manufacturer eyes bigger piece of UAE market

  DUBAI – Philippine amusement ride manufacturer and developer Carron Amusement Rides is looking to expand its market in the Middle East by setting up a flagship office in the UAE. “This month we are entering into a partnership with a Saudi corporation, and we want to be closer to the Middle East market by opening an office in Sharjah,” Ramon C. Santos, President of the parent company Carron Amusement Group, told Expatmedia.net on Saturday (April 1). Santos and his team were at the Dubai World Trade Center for an exhibit this week and met with the Philippine Consul General of Dubai and the Northern Emirates Paul Raymund Cortes. Carron Amusement Rides is the first Filipino-owned and operated amusement ride manufacturer and developer in the Philippines. The 21-year-old company designed and developed the rides of Star City, the oldest amusement park in the Philippines, as well as Sky Ranch, a leisure park in Tagaytay. The company is also the manufacturer and supplier of amusement rides for malls in the Philippines, including SM, Robinsons and Ayala. Santos said that the company is involved in the design, build, manufacture, supply, installation, turn over, operation, training and maintenance of every amusement ride project in their portfolio. “We want to show the world that Filipino-made amusement rides are at par, if not better, with those manufactured in the US, Europe or China,” Santos said. “We have a team of highly-trained designers, engineers and manufacturing staff who make sure that our output is at par with international standards. Quality and safety are our priorities,” Santos said. Rides are manufactured in a factory in Nueva Ecija in the Philippines by a specialized team of experts. The longest part of a project starts with research and development “to ensure that each project thoroughly goes through all safety and quality checks”. “In the UAE, we are working on a mall amusement project in Sharjah, and have already entered into deals for projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” Santos said. The Philippines continues to be its biggest market. At the infancy of the amusement industry in the Philippines, Santos said, “we were just importing rides, but now we are manufacturing them—from the smallest to the biggest”. The Star City project, Santos said, was an eye opener for him. “I saw that there was a chance to improve the industry, with our highly skilled manpower.
