Philippine cookbooks now available at Dubai Public Library

  DUBAI – Have you ever been curious about Filipino cuisine? You can pick up a cookbook at the Dubai Public Library. The Philippine Consulate Dubai on Sunday (August 28) donated Philippine cookbooks and Mama Sita’s commemorative stamps to the public library in Dubai as part of the Philippines’ cultural diplomacy program.   Fahad Almamari, Director of the Dubai Public Library System, received the donations in a simple ceremony held at the Dubai Public Library branch in Al Qusais, which was attended by Aries Geronimo, Manager of Mama Sita's Sales and Distribution Division, and Eleanor Balanquit, Political and Economic Attaché of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai. Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes said that the donation is part of the Philippine government's efforts to strengthen Philippine-UAE ties. Cortes also expressed hope that the cookbook donation would spur interest among the local Emirati community on Philippine cuisine. The UAE is home to one of the fastest growing Filipino communities around the world. Figures from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimate that there are over 610,000 Filipinos in the UAE, with about 415,000 residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Almamari said he was certain that Emiratis and other nationalities would develop more interest and awareness of Philippine cuisine with the cookbooks available at the public libraries. He also requested more of these publications to be distributed to branches of the Dubai Public Library system.
