DUBAI – Questions regarding the Philippine passport validity have been raised by overseas Filipino workers in the UAE and around the world, which the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Northern Emirates answered on Tuesday (August 16). Philippine Consulate General Paul Raymund Cortes, in a statement, said that the passport validity remains five years, as stipulated in the Philippine Passport Act of 1996. Cortes made the announcement a day after the Philippines launched its new e-passport with more security features and “stunning” visual design highlighting the country’s landmarks. The administration of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has mulled a longer validity for passports as part of his mandate for a service-oriented government. Budget secretary Benjamin Diokno, in an interview with the media in June, said that he will recommend a longer validity of the Philippine passport from five years to 10 years.
