Games and Amusement Board wants WBO to do a 'thorough review'   MANILA – The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) has filed a protest before the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and asked for a "thorough review" of the judging and officiating of the welterweight title bout between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn last Sunday at the Suncorp Arena in Brisbane, Australia. The protest was contained in an email by GAB chairman Abraham Mitra and Commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Matthew Gaston to WBO president Francisco Valcarcel. The GAB said in a press statement: "Horn, who was an underdog, was able to steal the (WBO welterweight) belt from Pacman by a controversial unanimous decision. The camp of Pacquiao respected the outcome of the fight but many boxing enthusiasts were not convinced of the result." The GAB board was present in the fight, the press release added. The three judges – Waleska Roldan of the US, Chris Flores of the US and Ramon Cerdan of Argentina scored the fight in favor of Horn even if boxing statistics showed that Pacquiao landed many punches and jabs on Horn. American referee Mark Nelson was criticized by observers for allegedly letting Horn get away with roughhousing. In the email to Valcarcel, the GAB board said: "We would like to echo the stand of many boxing followers on the possible errors of the referee and the judges who officiated the subject fight." "While we respect the decision, we are constrained to request for a thorough review by the WBO for possible miscalls of the referee where some deductions were not made and of the judges in their judging that have caused varying opinions on their objectivity." "We are making this request for a review, which may call for sanctions on the referee if so warranted, in furtherance of our mutual goal of protecting the integrity of the sport and even more improving the boxing industry we all love." The GAB said the letter was not meant to ask for a reversal of the decision and that the Pacquiao camp had nothing to do with the board's move.
