The Philippines’ Taal volcano has seen increased activity in recent weeks, with the UAE embassy recently raising a travel alert for Emiratis visiting the country. However, as of Monday (September 25), the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the volcanic smog from Taal volcano has subsided. The volcanic smog had raised health concerns, while also lowering visibility around the area, forcing authorities to suspend work and classes on Friday, and banning aircraft from flying close to the volcano. The UAE Embassy in Manila issued a travel alert to UAE citizens in the Philippines to exercise caution and to contact the embassy on 0097180024 or 0097180044444 in case of emergencies. Meanwhile, the Philippine Department of Tourism has urged the public to exercise caution when visiting areas in and around Taal volcano, with tourism activities in the area “subject to advisory” from the local disaster management authorities. Taal volcano, located in Batangas province, has been voted by Tripadvisor travelers as one of the most beautiful places on earth. The volcano is the smallest active volcano in the world at just 311 metres tall. What also makes it unique is that it sits on an island within a lake within an island. ICA/Expat Media
