In Negros Occidental, Philippines, one hotel is turning heads with its unique architectural style. Campuestohan Highland Resort recently achieved a Guinness World Record for the “largest building in the shape of a chicken.” Standing 114 feet high and spanning over 92 feet in length, the colossal chicken hotel is an unmistakable landmark that has brought fame to the small town of Campuestohan. The man behind this avian architectural feat, Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, shared that his goal was to create something awe-inspiring for the public. “I wanted to leave an impression and give something iconic to the people,” he said. The project began as an ambitious dream to honor his region’s strong connection to the gamefowl industry, which employs millions across the country. The rooster-inspired structure is not just eye-catching; it’s also resilient. Built to withstand the typhoons that frequently impact the region, the building’s design posed unique challenges that required extensive planning and testing. The construction took 456 days, beginning in June 2023 and wrapping up in early September of this year. Tan explained the deeper symbolism behind his design choice: “The rooster stands strong and resilient, qualities we see in the Negrense people. This building is a tribute to their determination to overcome challenges.” The structure is designed to convey both the spirit and cultural pride of Negros Occidental, a region historically known for its resilience and agricultural prowess. The hotel offers 15 rooms, catering to families and groups looking for an unusual stay. Rooms are designed with comfort in mind, balancing quirky design with cozy amenities.
