The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) is investigating former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque for allegedly leaving the country through illegal means. The controversy erupted after Roque's counter-affidavit related to a trafficking case was notarized in Abu Dhabi, sparking questions about his departure from the Philippines. According to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, Roque’s name appears on the BI’s Lookout Bulletin, making it improbable for him to have exited through formal channels. "Flight is evidence of guilt," Viado said, suggesting that Roque’s departure might have been facilitated by falsified documents. The BI's records indicate that Roque's last documented travel occurred in July when he returned to the Philippines from Los Angeles, USA. “It’s impossible that he left via formal ports. His name is flagged, and he’s a very well-known public figure,” Viado added. The bureau is coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi to confirm the circumstances of Roque’s travel. Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon also disclosed that the notarization of Roque’s counter-affidavit in Abu Dhabi on November 29 raised questions about how he reached the UAE. Viado highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating that Roque could face charges for falsification of public documents if proven guilty. “He most probably falsified immigration clearances to be accepted by his destination country,” he said. Roque, a prominent figure during the Duterte administration, has yet to publicly address these allegations. The BI is pursuing a thorough investigation to ascertain if individuals aided in Roque's suspected illegal departure. This development underscores the Philippine government’s stringent stance on illegal travel and human trafficking.
