Gilas, Timnas each have three wins and no losses in ongoing sub-zone championships

  MANILA – Gilas Pilipinas and Timnas Basket of Indonesia scored their second and third wins after defeating their respective foes in the second and third days of the ongoing Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship in Manila over the weekend. The Filipino and Indon teams now have three wins and zero losses so far in the seven-day tournament that started last Friday and will run until this Thursday. Whoever wins in the SEABA will represent the sub-zone in the FIBA Asia Cup this August in Beirut. In last Saturday's game against Singapore, Gilas beat Singapore, 113-66. Although Delvin Goh of Singapore managed to shoot two free throws, the trio of naturalized player Andray Blatche, Calvin Abueva and Allein Maliksi dominated the game to bring the Filipinos to its second win. Singapore didn't let the dominant Filipinos dampen their enthusiasm and will to give their best. Larry Liew and Wong Weilong also helped Goh score as many points for their team. Also last Saturday, Thailand beat Vietnam, 76-49 with the help of Anuruk Lodliang, Kannut Samerjai, Teerawat Chanthachon and Wutipong Dason who contributed a mix of high points, rebounds, double-doubles and three-pointers while Indonesia scored a win over Malaysia, 63-42, courtesy of Abraham Grahita, Diftha Pratama, Kevin Sitorus who all made an efficient game for Timnas. Meanwhile, Gilas prevailed Malaysia, 106-51 last night. Although Malaysia scored the first points in the first quarters, the Filipinos rallied and demolished the Malaysians in the end. Indonesia defeated Thailand by a mere point, 60-59 while Vietnam overpowered Myanmar, 77-44. The Filipinos take a rest today. Thailand will play against Myanmar at 3 p.m., Singapore will be pitted against Malaysia at 5 p.m. and Indonesia will go up against Vietnam at 7 p.m. The games are being held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, a suburban city in Metro Manila.
