Philippines issues updated rules for foreign travelers

  MANILA – The Philippines has issued updated rules for foreign travelers arriving in the country, with protocols covering entry, testing and quarantine effective February 16. According to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the rules apply to “foreign nationals arriving from abroad”. All foreign travelers must be fully vaccinated and present proof of vaccination before boarding their flight. Exemptions will be granted to children below the age of 12 who are traveling with their fully vaccinated parents, people medically unable to receive the vaccine as certified by a competent health authority, and foreign diplomats and their dependents or 9(e) visa holders. Foreign travelers must also present a negative result of an RT-PCR test taken within 48 hours prior to their travel to the Philippines. Here are the updated Philippine travel guidelines for foreigners:

Foreign spouses and children of Filipino citizens

Foreign spouses or children of Filipino citizens will not be required to have return tickets, not later than 30 days from the date of their arrival in the Philippines.

Former Filipino citizens, their foreign spouse and children

Former Filipino citizens with balikbayan privilege including their foreign spouse and children who are not balikbayans will not be required to have return tickets, not later than 30 days from the date of their arrival in the Philippines.

Foreign travelers from visa-free countries

Foreign nationals coming from visa-free countries who intend to stay beyond 30 days for purposes other than tourism or leisure can enter the Philippines through an entry exemption document issued under existing IATF rules and regulations.

Foreign spouses and children of Filipino citizens from visa-required countries

Foreign spouses and children of Filipino citizens who come from countries requiring a visa to enter the Philippines may enter the country without the need for an entry exemption document, provided they have been issued a 9(a) visa (temporary visitor’s visa) with the appropriate visa notation.

Transit foreign travelers

Transit travelers must ensure they have not left the airport premises or entered another country during the layover. Violators will be put on facility-based quarantine upon the release of their negative RT-PCR test taken on the fifth day of their arrival in the Philippines, followed by home quarantine until their 14th day in the country.

Quarantine protocols

Foreign travelers entering the Philippines will no longer be required to undergo facility-based quarantine, but must self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for seven days upon their arrival. Those with Covid-19 symptoms must report to the local government unit of their destination.

Entry rule violators

Violators will be put on facility-based quarantine upon the release of their negative RT-PCR test taken on the fifth day of their arrival in the Philippines, followed by home quarantine until their 14th day in the country. ICA/PNA/Expat Media
