Filipino contingent to be composed of 487 athletes who will compete in 36 sporting events

  MANILA – Philippine sports officials want the country's contingent to the 2017 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Kuala Lumpur to make it to fourth place in the multi-sport competition that will kick off this August. In a joint press conference by the Philippine Olympic Commission (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Cynthia Carrion, the country's chef de mission to the Malaysia SEAG, said: "We are going to tell our athletes that we should be at least number four or number five. We cannot be lower anymore." The Philippines finished sixth in the last SEAG held in Singapore with 26 medals. In this year's SEAG, Carrion said they are targetting 40 to 50 medals as the PSC is giving the contingent between 50 million pesos and 100 million pesos as funding "so the athletes should aim higher this time." The Philippine contingent to the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games will be composed of 487 athletes who will compete in 30 sporting events, 146 coaches and trainors, and 100 support personnel. In the Singapore games, the country sent 466 athletes. Meanwhile, PSC acting executive director Carlo Abarquez said they will be providing funds for the parade uniforms, track suits, luggage, equipment and other expenses in connection with the country's participation in the SEAG.
