Latest update: Dubai Airport to resume departure operations from 6:30 p.m.

  DUBAI – An Emirates flight from India's Thriruvananthapuram to Dubai caught fire after making an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 on Wednesday (August 3). No one was reported hurt in the incident, with Emirates saying that all 282 passengers and 18 crew members of flight EK521 have been evacuated to safety. The plane had departed from Trivandrum International Airport in Thriruvananthapuram at 10:19 a.m. and was scheduled to land at Dubai airport at 12:50 p.m. Emirates said the plane made an emergency landing at 12:45 p.m. Emirates did not give further details on the cause of the plane's emergency landing but said it was cooperating with authorities and emergency services managing the situation. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen coming from a plane on the tarmac, with emergency rescue teams seen dousing off flames from the aircraft. The flames were put out at around 2:30 p.m. A witness who works near the airport told ExpatMedia.Net that he heard a loud crash and then saw clouds of smoke rising from the airport. Sources said that the plane's landing gear had malfunctioned before it landed. A video that circulated on social media showed the plane grounding onto a halt on its belly, while one of its jet engines appeared to have broken off. The area has been cordoned off and all flights to and from Dubai International were suspended until 6:30 p.m. Emirates said it was expecting an 8-hour network-wide delay following the incident.
