Nine suspects nabbed for robbing money transport van of Dh14M

DUBAI – Authorities have busted a robbery gang for stealing Dh14 million from a money van. The gang, made up of nine Asian nationals, was arrested in a neigboring emirate and the police managed to recover the money from them, according to Maj. Gen. Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs (CIA). Al Mansouri said on Monday that police received a report about a money transport vehicle being robbed in Al Muraqqabat area last Thursday as employees of a money transporting firm were loading money into an ATM. The suspects then fled to an unknown destination but were later traced to a neighboring emirate where they were collared, he added. On the other hand, Col. Adel Al Joker, head of investigation at Dubai Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said the suspects were found within 12 hours after the robbery incident taking refuge in a neighboring emirate and the police arrested the suspects in one of the industrial zones of that emirate. Al Joker also said police found sketches the suspects had used to plan out the robbery. Meanwhile, Al Mansouri announced that they will require money transporting companies to use a bag with strong security features beginning next year. The bag, he added, is designed to foil any robbery attempt. The bag includes an alarm and thick smoke will be emitted by the bag in the event of a robbery attempt to scare the thieves. Also, a GPS system will be able to track the bag.
