Prince Harry and Meghan to drop royal titles

  DUBAI – Britain’s Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have given up their royal titles in order to step back from the British monarchy. Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer be referred to as their Royal Highnesses but will retain their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They will also no longer receive funds for public duties and will repay £2.4 million (Dh11.4 million) in public funding that was used to refurbish their cottage. According to Buckingham Palace on Saturday, Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer formally represent Queen Elizabeth as they step back from royal duties. The couple will drop the titles His/Her Royal Highness and will not be given official military appointments. Queen Elizabeth, in a statement, described the decision as “constructive”, adding that it follows “many months of conversations and more recent discussions”. "I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life," she said. The couple is expected to move to Canada with their son Archie.
