TV actress talks about relationship with British royal in Vanity Fair interview

  LOS ANGELES - Talking publicly for the first time about her relationship with Prince Harry, American actress Meghan Markle said she and the British prince are "really happy and in love". "We're two people who are really happy and in love," Markle told Vanity Fair. The 36-year-old Markle said she and the 32-year-old prince had been in a relationship for six months already before the public got wind of it at the end of last year. "We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news and I was working during that whole time and the only thing that changed was people's perception," she said. The couple met in July 2016 and when news came out that Prince Harry was dating Markle, there was intense media frenzy over their affair and the actress, which prompted the prince to slam the press for their "wave of abuse and harassment" of Markle, who stars in the US legal drama Suits as lawyer Rachel Zane. Now that both she and the prince are open about their relationship, Markle said she is ready to face the spotlight. "We're a couple. We're in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time," said Markle. She added: "This is for us. It's part of what makes it so special, that it's just ours. But we're happy. Personally, I love a great love story." Since they've been a couple, Markle said there were challenges that came "in waves". "Some days it can feel more challenging than others. Right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend's support." Markle however emphasized that nothing in her has changed. "Nothing about me changed. I'm still the same person that I am, and I've never defined myself by my relationship," said the actress.
