Dubai tower fire probe continues, cleaning begins

  DUBAI - Cleaning operations were underway on Saturday (July 24) and investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the fire that broke out at Dubai Marina's Sulafa Tower. The fire on Wednesday affected a total of 17 apartments in the 75-storey building. The fire quickly spread to upper floors due to strong winds. Although there were no reported deaths or serious injuries in the incident, three people sustained minor injuries. Among those injured were a pregnant woman, said Colonel Yusuf Al Odaidi, Director of Al Barsha Police Station. Residents affected by the fire had taken refuge at the nearby Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, which provided food, beverages and other necessities. Residents who returned to their apartments on Saturday to pick up personal belongings had complained of soot and smell of smoke coming from air vents. A hotel spokesperson said that the hotel will continue to be open to affected residents on Saturday and will provide temporarily shelter to those who have yet to find alternative accommodation. A number of affected residents were given alternative accommodation at Tamani and Gloria hotels by management of Sulafa Tower.
