Tim Harrison-Jones, General Manager of LEGOLAND Dubai Resort, now runs the show at the happiest place in the UAE. This marks his return to Dubai where he previously worked as divisional director for a year to oversee the resort's completion. Tim is a Merlin Entertainment member for almost two decades, the company which operates and partly owns the Dubai resort. He was previously a senior divisional director in the UK, running Thorpe Park Resort and Chessington World of Adventures Resort. He shares his journey to being top boss.

When did you start your career?

As I started my passion for hospitality and leisure at a very young age as a 14-year-old entrepreneur, I was able to assume the role of a general manager at the age of 24.

What drew you to this industry?

Since I was a kid, I witnessed my mother’s passion for food as a professional chef in the UK. I guess I inherited her passion for hospitality and followed her footsteps.

What’s the coolest job you ever had?

Being a history enthusiast, I was fortunate to work at one of the oldest castles in the UK. I enjoyed working there as the castle was 1,100 years old – which was a surreal experience for me.

What is your best accomplishment?

I was part of the senior team that was able to secure funds to sign off a deal to launch World of Jumanji. This £17-million development marked the world’s first themed land for the box office hit Jumanji film franchise.

What drew you to the UAE?

Anything is possible as this amazing country constantly fascinates everyone with its plans and projects at all levels – making it the ideal destination for dream seekers.

What made you stick with your career this far?

I’m working in the ‘fun’ business. it’s amazing to be part of a team that offers awesome experiences to family and friends around the globe.

If you were to swap careers, what job would you prefer?

I would work as a gardener! I love the greenery as it gives me a sense of relaxation. I could work for hours in my garden, taking care of it as it helps me switch off and reduces any stress that I might have faced during the day.

What is your life advice that you live by?
