The Dubai Police issued a public safety alert on Friday (November 17), warning the public to stay away from beaches after rains lashed parts of the city and other neighbouring emirates. In an SMS message sent out to residents, the Dubai Police also urged the public to stay away from areas prone to floods and to stay safe amid adverse weather conditions. “Stay clear of beaches and areas prone to flash floods,” the Dubai Police warned the pubic. It also advised motorists to “drive with care and heed the advice of authorities.” Rain and thunderstorms lashed Dubai and parts of the UAE on Friday morning, causing flooding in some key roads. The National Centre of Meteorology raised an orange and yellow warning for most parts of the country. In May this year, the UAE’s Ministry of Interior announced new traffic laws as a specific response to adverse weather, with up to Dh2,000 in fines for violators.
