UAE authorities announced on Monday (February 24) reduced working hours for private sector employees during the holy month of Ramadan 2025. In line with federal labor regulations, private sector employees will have shorter working hours throughout Ramadan. Under UAE law, work hours will be reduced by two hours every day during Ramadan. Employers are permitted to adjust schedules, provided they remain within the daily limits set for the month.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) had earlier confirmed Ramadan working hours for public sector employees: Monday to Thursday: 9am to 2:30pm Fridays: 9am to 12pm

Expected start date of Ramadan 2025

According to the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre (IAC), Ramadan is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, as the crescent moon will likely be visible on the night of February 28. However, the exact start date will be confirmed by official moon-sighting committees on the 29th day of Shaban (February 28). Islamic months follow the lunar calendar and last either 29 or 30 days, depending on the crescent moon’s sighting. As the UAE prepares for the holy month, businesses and employees are encouraged to plan accordingly to accommodate the adjusted work schedules while observing Ramadan traditions.
