UAE Moon Sighting Committee fails to see moon crescent, group to convene again Friday night

  DUBAI - The holy month of Ramadan starts on Saturday (May 27). This, after the UAE Moon Sighting Committee announced that the moon crescent, which is supposed to be the basis for determining the start of the holy month, was not seen on Thursday night. The committee, however, will convene again on Friday night to look for the crescent moon. Thus, Friday will be last day of the month of Sha'baan and Saturday will be start of Ramadan. Saudi Arabia also announced that Ramadan starts on Saturday. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is believed that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed during Ramadan. Ramadan is also a period when Muslims around the world practice penace and focus on religious and spiritual areas of their lives.
