Ramadan in UAE likely begin on May 6

  DUBAI – Ramadan is expected to begin on May 6, with the UAE to experience the shortest fasting hours in four years, an expert in Dubai said. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Astronomy and Metrology Researcher, said the new moon will be formed at 2:46am on May 5 and disappear 30 minutes after sunset. Al Jarwan said that the new moon of Ramadan will then be possibly sighted on May 6 “as per the astronomical standards of moon sighting." He said that the new moon of the month of Shawaal after Ramadan is likely to be sighted at 2:02pm on June 3. The astronomer said that the new moon of Eid Al Fitr month will disappear three minutes after sunset, while the first day of Shawwal is likely to fall on June 5. UAE residents are expected to fast for the shortest period in four years this Ramadan, with 13 hours and 10 minutes of fasting during the initial days of Ramadan and 13 hours and 40 minutes of fasting by the end of Ramadan.
