Sky watchers in the UAE are in for a rare treat next month as a total lunar eclipse will be visible on the night of September 7, turning the Moon a dramatic copper-red. The eclipse, known as a Blood Moon, will begin at 9:30pm GST and last for about 20 minutes, making it the longest such event since 2022. Astronomers said no special equipment is needed to observe the phenomenon. The Dubai Astronomy Group will host a public viewing event and encouraged residents to step outside and look up to witness the spectacle. The eclipse will also be visible across Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe. The celestial display kicks off a series of astronomical events for the UAE. Three consecutive supermoons will follow later this year: the Hunter’s Moon on October 7, the Beaver Moon on November 5, and the Cold Moon on December 4. Each will appear larger and brighter as the Moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit. Stargazers can also look forward to meteor showers, including the Orionids on October 21 and 22, Leonids on November 17 and 18, and the spectacular Geminids on December 13 and 14, with up to 120 meteors per hour.
