Building and villa owners in Ras Al Khaimah have until January 31 to comply with the mandatory Himaya system, which requires CCTV cameras to be installed in buildings to enhance public safety. The initiative, spearheaded by Ras Al Khaimah Police, aims to deter robberies and other crimes and ensure swift action against illegal activities. Owners must ensure their CCTV systems meet the required standards, including high-definition recording for up to 90 days. Cameras must be placed at all entrances, exits, lobbies, and parking areas. Colonel Ahmed Al Zaabi of RAK Police explained, "The Himaya system is a vital step toward creating a safer community and curbing unlawful activities." The initiative also applies to shops and commercial centers, schools, mosques, hospitals, government buildings, hotels and rest houses, with each property displaying a sticker indicating CCTV coverage. Inspections will intensify after the deadline, with penalties imposed on non-compliant building owners starting February 1.
