Three juveniles in Ras Al Khaimah have been sentenced to community service after a court found them guilty of assaulting another teenager. The Second Criminal Court of Juvenile Misdemeanours modified its initial ruling of juvenile detention after the suspects appealed, instead sentencing them to 48 hours of community service at the Emirates Cultural and Sports Club. The community service will be carried out in four-hour shifts on weekends until the end of the academic year. According to defense lawyer Hanan Salem, the first suspect, aged 15, physically assaulted a peer of the same age, leaving him with injuries that prevented him from performing basic tasks for up to 20 days. The second and third suspects were complicit in aiding the attack. Although the original ruling involved placing the juveniles in a rehabilitation facility, their appeal was partially accepted, and the sentence was amended to a more rehabilitative approach. The court emphasized that while the seriousness of the offense warranted consequences, alternative sentencing aligned better with juvenile justice goals. ICA/Expat Media
