Ras Al Khaimah eyes new world record with New Year's Eve fireworks

RAS AL KHAIMAH – The New Year’s Eve fireworks on Al Marjan Island will be Ras Al Khaimah's attempt at bagging a Guinness world record for largest aerial firework shell. The fireworks show is set to be a show-stopping global attraction with resplendent colours to illuminate the night sky over the waterfront development. Fireworks from 120 sites will create a spectacular canopy never seen before, according to organisers. Al Marjan Island has joined hands with Ras Al Khaimah’s government entities including Ras Al Khaimah Public Works to create two new public view areas and more than 5,000 additional public car parking spaces around Al Marjan Island to welcome the visitors. A team of 30 engineers, pyrotechnicians, fabricators and others are working on the project led by Phil Grucci, Creative Director of Fireworks by Grucci. Engr. Abdullah Al Abdooli, Managing Director of Al Marjan Island, said: “This year, we are creating a dynamic new experience that will add to the pride of Ras Al Khaimah and our nation through a spectacular firework display." The New Year’s Eve fireworks will run along the entire shoreline of the mega-waterfront development. Al Marjan Island authorities have urged the public to abide by Ras Al Khaimah Police traffic regulations as well as the on-site arrangements regarding viewing the fireworks for their safety and convenience. Yachting enthusiasts can watch the fireworks from the sea provided they secure permits from 8pm on December 31 and abide by regulations. Visitors can reach the site before 8pm to secure comfortable public viewing areas, which will be located on and around Al Marjan Island. Access to the viewing decks and to the main entrance of Al Marjan Island will be closed at 10pm. Visitors can also take part in New Year’s Eve photo competition, which opens on December 31 and closes on January 1. Photographs may be submitted through Al Marjan Island’s social media platforms with the hashtag #RAKNYE. The top three winners will be selected by an expert jury in two categories: Social pictures that depict people celebrating the fireworks and two, visuals of the fireworks. In addition to a cash prize of Dh10,000, the first prize winners will be rewarded with a family stay at Rixos Hotel. Online entry forms are available at www.raknewyearseve.com. DAJ/Expat Media
