Ras Al Khaimah hit-and-run death: Gulf motorist to pay Dh90,000 ‘blood money’
A Gulf motorist involved in a hit-and-run incident that killed an Asian man in Ras Al Khaimah will pay a total of Dh90,000 as “blood money” or compensation to the victim’s family. The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court of First Instance ordered the Gulf national to pay Dh60,000 to the victim’s daughter, and Dh30,000 to the victim’s wife. He will also pay the family’s legal expenses. According to court records, the Gulf motorist run over the Asian man as he was walking on the hard shoulder in one of the internal roads in Ras Al Khaimah. The victim was killed on the spot. Police investigation showed that the motorist was driving at 120km/hr on a road whose speed limit was 60km/hr. In a separate criminal case against the Gulf motorist, the court sentenced him to one year in prison for killing a pedestrian.
