A 40-year-old man from Ras Al Khaimah has been acquitted of allegations of assaulting his wife and filming her without her consent. The Ras Al Khaimah Court of First Instance also dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by the wife against her husband. The husband, represented by Hanan Salem Al Shammili’s Law Firm, presented evidence to refute the claims, including medical reports that contradicted allegations of bodily harm. The allegations stemmed from an incident in which the wife accused her husband of strangling her and recording her without permission. However, the defense argued that the wife had a history of fabricating issues within their 17-year marriage. The couple has eight children, whose welfare has been a central concern in the ongoing dispute. According to court records, on the day of the alleged incident, the wife left the children unattended at home while she went to work. She returned late at night, which led to a disagreement. The husband, who had put their 3-year-old daughter to bed, requested that she remain undisturbed. Despite his request, the wife insisted on taking the child, leading to further tension. The husband admitted to filming the interaction but maintained that the video was recorded with her consent. He argued that the recording was intended as evidence to protect himself against her accusations. The court found no evidence of intent to harm in this action. During the proceedings, it was revealed that the wife had allegedly misappropriated Dh43,000 from the husband’s funds. The husband has filed a separate civil lawsuit to recover this amount, which remains under judicial review. Additionally, divorce proceedings initiated by the husband are ongoing. The court’s ruling cited a lack of evidence to support the wife’s claims and highlighted the husband’s consistent efforts to provide for his family despite the marital discord. ICA/Expat Media
