Ras Al Khaimah authorities are taking firm action against tailoring shops that alter the design of the traditional Emirati national dress, a move aimed at preserving the authenticity and cultural heritage of the UAE. The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Ras Al Khaimah issued a stern warning to tailoring businesses, emphasizing that non-compliance with traditional dress standards will lead to legal accountability. The initiative is part of a broader effort to uphold Emirati identity and cultural values in line with UAE laws and regulations. “Tailoring shops must strictly adhere to the design standards of UAE national dress. Any modification or alteration that undermines its authenticity is unacceptable,” a DED spokesperson said. The guidelines stress designing and sewing traditional garments in their original form, ensuring that cultural values and traditions are respected. Shops must also prevent any commercial practices that negatively affect this commitment. DED has outlined several compliance measures for tailoring businesses: - Ensuring designs preserve the original standards of UAE national dress. - Training staff to understand cultural requirements and design specifications. - Conducting commercial practices in alignment with Emirati values and traditions. Regular inspections will be carried out by the department to ensure adherence. Businesses found violating these regulations will face legal consequences. “By enforcing these standards, we aim to preserve our national identity and heritage for future generations,” the spokesperson added. This initiative aligns with the UAE's broader commitment to cultural preservation amidst rapid modernization.
