Update as of March 30, 2018: No CBSE exams for students in UAE, outside of India DUBAI – The decision to hold a re-examination in mathematics and economics will affect more than 11,000 Indian students in the UAE. India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made the decision on Wednesday following reports that test papers were leaked ahead of the exams. The examinations started on March 5 and are to conclude on April 12. Grade 10 students completed their maths exams on Wednesday, while Grade 12 economics exams were held on March 26. Every year, the CBSE sets exam papers per region where students from India, the Middle East, South Asia and other schools receive different sets of question papers. This year, the CBSE followed a single paper policy for all CBSE schools worldwide. India’s Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said exam papers were leaked from a school in Delhi, and assured there would be no further leaks of exam papers. On Wednesday, the CBSE said it will hold a re-examination for Grade 10 mathematics and Grade 12 economics. “The board has taken cognisance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examination as is being reported. With a view to uphold the sanctity of the board examinations and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the board has decided to reconduct the examinations in the following subjects (Class XII – Economics and Class X - Mathematics),” The CBSE’s Controller of Examinations said in a statement. The CBSE has set no dates for re-examination and school authorities in the UAE estimate it will take at least a week before the new dates are announced. More than two million students were expected to take the CBSE Grade 10 and Grade 12 exams worldwide, with 8,474 students taking Grade 10 maths in the UAE and 2,713 students taking Grade 12 economics exams in the country.
