Residence permits scrapped for Filipinos in 35 job categories in Saudi Arabia

  DUBAI – Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia will be unable to renew their residence permit if they work in any of 35 job categories affected. Among those affected are Filipino human resource professionals, pharmacists and security guards, according to GMA News Online. Applicants awaiting permits for the said positions will also be affected. Earlier this year, Saudi Minister of Labor and Social Development Ahmed bin Suleiman Al-Rajhi issued a decree to limit work in 41 activities in Madinah to Saudi nationals starting on April 7, 2019, and June 10, 2019, for hospitality and tourism sectors. More than 300,000 Filipinos working in Saudi Arabia are expected to be affected by the new rule. The Philippine Department of Labour and Employment has offered affected OFWs with financial and livelihood assistance.
