Restaurant review: Flavours of Mediterranean in La Mer
Dubai's leisure district of La Mer looked more vibrant than ever when Expatmedia.net visited recently to check out the newest foodie hangout there: Mediterranean Kitchen. The newly opened restaurant promised “flavours of the Mediterranean along the shores of Dubai”. Did it deliver on its promise? Here’s our review:The food
We have to say that Mediterranean Kitchen nailed its promise of “authentic, contemporary take on a timeless cuisine”. We loved the savoury mix of chicken, beef and lamb skewers off the grill, which went well with a side of hand-cut fries and vegetables. The portions were big enough for our group of three to share. But the clear winner was the six-hour Slow Roasted Lamb Shank served with a side of organic quinoa, grilled zucchini and asparagus. The meat was perfectly tender and perfectly seasoned, without the gamy smell and aftertaste.
We also loved the desserts, particularly the citrus cheesecake that included a delightful contrast of flavours all in one plate.
The service
The people running Mediterranean Kitchen will be one of the reasons you’ll love checking in here to make your La Mer food trip worthwhile. They’re a happy and helpful bunch and observant enough to make the pacing of food service smooth and on point. The head chef also came out to meet us and ask how we’re enjoying our dining experience. What a personal touch. We hope they don’t change when things get busier. The ambiance
The restaurant has three dining areas dressed to suit your mood. We loved the concept! For leisure dining, the wooden outdoor patio is perfect with its mix of casual tables and chairs and picnic tables.
If you are in the mood for a fine dining set-up, you can head inside to the left part of the restaurant with the tufted furniture. If casual modern dining is your thing, then take a seat at the right side section with modern vintage leather seats in black and white and marble tabletops.
The only thing we found odd was having the restaurant all to ourselves from 6pm until we left at around 9pm on a Friday night. We did see at least two groups check out the place, but they just came and left after glancing at the menu.
The price
Prices can be a bit 5-star level at Mediterranean Kitchen, with beverages setting you back at least Dh35 and desserts for Dh50. The mixed grill was Dh190 and the slow roasted lamb shank was Dh130.Verdict
Overall, we loved the dining experience at Mediterranean Grill. We would recommend it if you don’t mind spending a bit extra for some bold flavours and customer-friendly service. JY/PIA/Expat MediaDetails
