A retired accountant from Karnataka, India, has turned a dream into reality by winning a staggering Dh1 million in the Big Ticket e-draw on Friday (January 17). Sundar Marakala, a 60-year-old former Dubai resident who worked in the emirate for 25 years, was announced as the latest millionaire. Marakala, who now lives a serene retired life in his hometown with his wife and daughter, shared his journey with Big Ticket—a journey that began seven years ago during his time in Dubai. “It started as a group activity with my office colleagues. Eventually, I began purchasing tickets on my own almost every month,” he recounted. Although he has participated in countless draws over the years, this was his first time winning. “I couldn’t believe it at first. I was overwhelmed with happiness but had to calm myself down to confirm it wasn’t a scam. Seeing the UAE number gave me relief,” Marakala said. The new millionaire revealed that he plans to share part of his prize with his sister and her family. However, he admitted that the rest of the money’s purpose remains undecided. Despite the win, he intends to continue participating in the Big Ticket draws, fueled by the hope and excitement they bring. “My advice to others is simple—keep trying. You never know when your luck might strike.” Big Ticket’s January promotion offers participants weekly chances to win Dh1 million, culminating in a grand live draw for Dh25 million on February 3. The e-draw has become a tradition for many UAE residents, with its affordable tickets and life-changing prizes. This year’s promotion includes a unique "Big Win" contest for those who purchase at least two tickets in a single transaction from January 1 to 26. Four lucky participants will join the grand finale, guaranteeing cash prizes ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh150,000. Tickets can be purchased online or at counters located at Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain Airport. Organizers have also confirmed upcoming weekly draws on January 24 and February 1.
