Which months and days are the deadliest in the UAE in terms of deaths or injuries from traffic accidents? The UAE’s Ministry of Interior has shared revealing statistics. According to the Ministry of Interior’s Road Safety Statistics for 2022, Saturdays and Sundays are the deadliest days, with 16 percent of most deaths and injuries in traffic accidents occurring during these days. Statistics also revealed that January and March are the deadliest months where the most number of traffic accidents occur. The evening or night period is considered the most dangerous times on the roads, with 37 percent of deaths and 40 percent of injuries in traffic accidents occurring at night, compared to 29 percent deaths and 24 percent injuries from traffic accidents reported in the morning period, and 18 percent deaths and 19 percent injuries in the afternoon. There is some good news, however: The number of road deaths in the country has decreased by 10 percent last year compared to 2021, with 343 road deaths recorded in 2022. In the last 13 years, the number of deaths due to traffic accidents has also decreased by less than 68 percent. According to statistics, the top 5 traffic violations that led to 65 percent of road deaths are distracted driving (85 deaths, 25%), sudden swerving (48 deaths, 14%), driving without keeping a safe distance (32 deaths, 9%), driving under the influence of prohibited substances (30 deaths, 9%) and negligence and inattention (29 deaths, 8%).
