Revealed: Where GCC residents travel during festive season

  DUBAI - When it comes to the festive season, where do residents from the GCC travel? A recent study has revealed that Dubai is the top destination for GCC travelers, followed by Abu Dhabi and Al Medina in Saudi Arabia. As for international destinations, London is the top pick followed by Istanbul and Paris, according to Hotelscombined.com, a hotel price comparison site. Its study was based on the number of bookings between December 22, 2017 to January 2, 2018. “Destinations like Dubai and London are very popular among travelers during the festive season as it is easy to get visas to these countries. Dubai itself is a popular attraction for youngsters, families and couples; and is also a hub for travelers heading to other destinations outside the Middle East,” said Amer Alhalabi, Regional Manager MENA of HotelsCombined. According to the report, the most popular hotels in the top locations include Roda Amwaj Suites Jumeirah Beach Residence Dubai in Dubai, The Cumberland - A Guoman Hotel in London, Hilton Istanbul Bomonti in Istanbul, Sheraton Al Khalidiya Hotel in Abu Dhabi, Millennium Taiba Hotel Madinah in Saudi Arabia and Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel in Paris. Looking at hotel prices, London has the highest room rates with a hotel costing an average of $200 (Dh734) per night. Dubai is slightly more affordable with the average price sitting at $176 (Dh646) per night. Rates drop even lower for those traveling to Paris, where a room will cost travelers $142 (Dh521) per night, while the most affordable destinations are Abu Dhabi, $104 (Dh382), Medina $62 (Dh228) and Istanbul $57 (Dh209). Finally, data from HotelsCombined also reveals that the top 5 travelers coming to GCC during this same time frame are from Saudi Arabia, UAE, United Kingdom, South Africa and Russia.
