LEGOLAND Hotel Dubai: grown-up review of kid-friendly hotel

  DUBAI – I spent the night in a medieval room that has been given the kids’ touch at LEGOLAND Hotel Dubai. I was a kid again! The place is a giant LEGO playground. It’s the first LEGO-themed hotel in the UAE and the Middle East, after all. Watch the video here: The unique hotel is located in Dubai Parks and Resorts, just a few steps away from the LEGOLAND theme park, and also the Outlet Village. A friendly LEGO dragon was peeking from the entrance as my travel buddy and I checked in along with other much younger guests. I’ve never seen so many happy kids and kids at heart. After getting the room key from the friendly receptionist, we went up to the room. But not before getting on the “Disco Elevator” with music and disco lights that turn on when you clap your hands! LEGO knight murals decorated the hallway, while the carpet had cartoon images of dungeons, dragons, Merlin’s hat, discarded swords and more. We stayed in a Kingdom-themed room—one of several themed-rooms in the hotel. I immediately went on a treasure hunt! The Kingdom-themed room in Legoland Hotel Dubai Our room, like all rooms in the hotel, has a special treasure box that can only be opened if you complete the treasure hunt list. A piece of paper contained clues to the number combination that can open the safe with the treasures inside. I went full-on detective mode and got the combination. A piece of cake. I opened the safe and got two surprise toys! They were so cool! (I won't spoil the surprise for you any further) Later, my travel buddy and I decided to explore the rest of the hotel. First stop was the all-day dining restaurant where the table cover is a giant coloring page. Don’t doodle on the walls? Here, they encourage you to doodle on the table! We were given a can of crayons. It’s been a while since I picked up a crayon, and it was fun brushing up on my coloring skills while waiting for our lunch to be served.

While this was a kid-friendly hotel, they take service very seriously here and this extends to grown-up food. We expected fries or chicken nuggets. We got Michelin-level dishes. Just wow. The kids have their own buffet counter that is built low enough for them to reach. There are some healthy treats, as well as some wicked sweets. A good mix. At the center of the lobby is a giant play area where kids can pretend to be pirates, or princes or princesses as they navigate their way though the mini-castle and ship. There’s also unlimited LEGO in the LEGO pool. If you prefer a wet pool, at the back of the hotel is a swimming pool where the children and adults can have a splashing good time. If you want more fun and child’s play, there’s a shortcut to the Legoland themepark that is literally just a few steps away from the back gate. We watched the newest 4D movie "Journey to Mythica" and screamed our lungs out in the roller coasters. Check out all the fun rides we tried: If you have kids, I highly recommend this hotel. There are so many family-bonding moments you can do here. As for me, surprisingly, staying at LEGOLAND Hotel Dubai was just the break I needed from the seriousness of being a grown up in Dubai.
